Our Own Generation, We Have Not Really Done Very Well For Nigeria And Also For Africa–Dangote
Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has stressed the importance of humility and modest living, explaining that financial success should not determine how people treat others or influence their personal values. According to a report published by Punch Newspaper on Monday, October 19, 2026, the billionaire businessman made the remarks during an event tagged Vision 2030, where he discussed the need for simplicity and responsible living regardless of an individual’s financial standing. Dangote explained that his wealth would not prevent him from staying in a poorly rated hotel if the situation required it.
His position reflects his belief that material possessions and social recognition should not make anyone feel superior to others. The industrialist maintained that people should remain humble even after achieving significant success, adding that prosperity should not become a reason to abandon the values that guide their lives. Dangote also highlighted the importance of engaging young people, noting that they would have a major influence on Nigeria’s future.
He encouraged conversations between established business leaders and the younger generation to help prepare them for their responsibilities in national development. Reflecting on the performance of older generations, Dangote acknowledged that Nigeria and Africa had yet to achieve the level of progress many had hoped for. He suggested that young people must now play an active role in shaping a better future for the continent.
The businessman expressed this view during his remarks, saying, “Honestly, the future that we have is actually you, the youth. We, our own generation really, we have not really done very well for Nigeria and also for Africa. That’s the truth,” he said.
